I hope someone can help me with this problem. I have one user on our network who is unable to open .pdf file links from the Internet. When he clicks on the link, it opens a new blank page instead of opening it an Adobe Acrobat document. I have downloaded the latest version of Explorer from Microsoft and made sure his service packs are all up to date. I am at my wits end - anyone know a fix?

Simplest first...
Is Adobe Acrobat Reader intalled on the pc?
Are your file associations correct?

Yes, I actually ended up uninstalling Acrobat and reinstalling it and that seems to have done the trick.

Thanks

For futur references, inside Adobe Acrobat, you go Edit, Preferences, General. Select the Options and then remove the checkmarks in "Display PDF in Browser". If you still have version 5, you can toggle it, exit Acrobat, go back and turn it back on and your v5 of Acrobat will work in browser mode again. As for 6, it will prompt you where you wish to d/l the PDF file.

Here is what I found happens: I had users on Adobe Acrobat 5 (Reader). Every so often (30 days by default I think), a prompt will ask you to upgrade, and the users would say YES. It would upgrade to version 6. The problem is that in version 6, Adobe removed the PDF Browser view (Seeing PDF directly in IE), but doesn't remove the configuration. When you come to open a PDF after you updated, you get a small X icon on the top left of your page or you get a "Cannot open file" error.

With respects to Reddlefty's advice, sometimes it is not just that simple.

If you Google Groups "IE cannot open pdf files" you will soon get a feel for the issue.

. Sometimes reinstalling Adobe works, sometimes not;
. Sometimes changing settings under Adobe works, sometimes not;

I feel it is an unresolved issue to date.

Thanks for the tips. I am checking each of our workstations for their configuration and correcting it. Seems to be working.
