I'm running XP Pro with SP3. Windows Automatic Update kept bugging me to install IE 8.0. I've rolled back from the Beta version on a few clients who decided to be payless (& unhappy) testers for M$. I'm looking for feedback on this latest version. Strange thing is my wife is running the same version of Windows & is not getting the notice to update.

Any thoughts/opinions?

Bob

The roll out for IE8 is staggered. Those who had the one of the Beta versions installed at some time will be offered the released version the soonest. I have not had any problems with IE8 (beta, rc , or gold versions). The majority of the problems that people have are due to incompatible add-ons or installation issues connected to their secuirty software.

In general, before updating:
[ul]
[li]Make sure that you've uninstalled any IE addons that you really don't need / use[/li]
[li]For the add-ons that you want to keep, be sure to update to the most recent version; particularly those third-party toolbars[/li]
[li]During the installation, stay off the internet and disable-party security software; particularly anti-spyware tools that run in the background and are likely to be hooked into IE to protect it.[/li]
[/ul]

^^^^ Good advice above regarding add-ons. I've seen machines that would crash IE8 every time it was started due to an add-on that gave IE8 indigestion.

If that occurs, start IE without add-ons and troubleshoot by turning off HALF of them, then relaunch in regular mode and see if the problem happens. If NOT, turn on the other half and re-test.
