Internet Explorer 8.0 64-bit - how to freeze column widths 1

Each time I reopen Internet Explorer, it opens as a small window. And every time, I do the same things. First, I drag the boarders to expand the horizontal width of the whole IE window. I have all folders setup for a Detail view, but the next thing I do is expand the width of the file name column and other columns as necessary. Is there a way to get IE to remember this the next time it is opened?

To be honest there is no easy fix that works consistently to either problem you have mentioned. These problem have been around since Windows was invented and are still visible in Windows 7, and probably will be so in Windows 27 too.
