I tried to go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy -> Advanced. Set both cookies to "Accept" or "Prompt". But it does not help. It always rejects cookie without prompting. I can't log in any where.

Any suggestion on what went wrong?

Thanks!

See if your Firewall blocks the cookies...

Make sure that Internet Options/ Privacy is set to Medium on the slider.

Via the mid-page Advanced tab page make sure "Override automatic cookie handling" is unchecked.

Internet Options -> Privacy is set as above. But still won't work. :(

I don't think my firewall blocks cookies. Firefox has no problem.

These are more of guess than anything else.

Internet Explorer Fix

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Internet Explorer.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

A few options for you to try.

for XP SP2, the only currently approved repair for IE is a reinstallation of the entire SP2 service pack.

Run each of the following from start/run: Press OK after each entry.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP (Q318378)

You can reinstall IE in Windows XP by clicking Start, Run and entering the following command:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

(where c: is your Windows drive).

You will need to have your XP CD available. If you re-install remember to update it.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Another possibility is that the Index.dat file in your Cookie folder is corrupt (or even your user profile).

You could try deleting the Cookie folder or the Index.dat (probably via Safe Mode or another username) and let Windows recreate it.

Tried IE service pack, XP SP 2, removing index.dat, still have the same problem. :(

Another account on the same PC does not have this problem. Is there any thing I can try? This account has a lot of settings that I would want to preserve. Deleting and recreating the account would not be the best thing to do.

Thanks!

Have a look at the Files and Setting Transfer Wizard.

Using it and manually getting the Settings (just for IE) from the good profile and copying them into the bad profile may work.
