For example, If i want to check my mail with outlook express I hit the Connect button and listen to the modem. When the modem has stopped screaming this is when I would expect toget my mail, but it takes 1 minute.

Do I have something checked I shouldnt or maybe I ma being over secure with something

more info plz........

do you use a windows dial-up - (do you get a small icon in the system tray when online next to the clock?) or does your isp have its own dial-up program? (like AOL)

it may just be that the server on the other end of your connection is a little slow/busy/outdated. If your isp has more than one number to dial try the others.

Check your security settings under tools/options..... (in IE or Outlook) - medium setting should be ok for general use - especially if you use firewall/virus software and are careful wot you d/l.
