I have a network connected to the internet via DSL. Is there a way I can limit who has access to the internet based on login name in Active Directory or by some setting on the XP Pro workstation?

In other words, I have an XP Pro workstation connected to the network that is shared by multiple people. I want some of the users that use this computer to be able to access the internet and not others.

The easiest way to control this is to check you Internet router. Many routers will have a built in firewall wall and some have the ability to type a password to access the internet. Or other routers have the ability to only allow certain IP addresses access to the internet.

From a Windows perspective, you can create a group policy to put fake proxy settings in Internet Explorer. Then apply this group policy to an OU that contains the users or computers you want to disable internet. I don't think there is anything built in to just disable internet. You really need a proxy server for this functionality.
