I would be very careful about getting EVDO service. It is much slower than what is usually considered broadband, though it is several times faster than dialup. Unfortunately, since you are using cellular towers, and your flat-rate EVDO service is displacing customer calls that they bill on a per-minute basis, the wireless carriers don't like it. Sure, they sell it. They even advertise it as unlimited. But they do cap your monthly data transfer and once you have exceeded this "secret limit" they will cut you off. Don't get me wrong, EVDO is very handy to have if you travel and you can't find a wifi hotspot for your laptop. But I would never recommend it as a primary access method.
So your options will be pretty much the old (now) standards: cable modem or DSL. You can shop around for various providers, but they're both pretty much limited by where you live.
