Internet access from W98 machine via networked XP machine

Hello
I have a laptop running XP Pro which is crossover linked to a W98 desktop. I can ping both machine addresses and transfer files OK, but when I attempt to access the internet on the W98 machine via the XP machine it fails and cannot access the page requested.
Do I have to set anything else on the W98 machine internet settings or is it just a matter of pointing it to the IP address of the XP machine via the LAN
I have firewall disabled - thanks for you help

Hi

A couple of questions:
1) Is ICS (or some other proxy server) running on the XP machine? If so, is the 98 machine set to retrieve its IP via DHCP from the XP ICS DHCP server or is it fixed or obtaining it from elsewhere?

2) Is IE on the 98 machine (or other browser) set to autodiscover the web browser proxy settings?

If you right click on the XP machines network adapter(connection tot eh internet) advanced, share internet connection.
Then on the 98 machine open internet explorer, Tools, internet, options,Connections, setup,next, cliclk connect to the internet,set up my connection manually,connect through a LAN(the third option) finish,
Restart internet explorer

Hi folks - this is a home setup (I am at work at the moment, so I can't check/verify any settings)I am running broadband on the XP machine.....
kippy13 - I will check your suggestions tonite when I get home and let you know if I succeed or not
