Hi,
I need some basic info please. A friend of mine works for a rather small company, they are about to purchase a Microsoft Small Business Server SBS2000. Being a PURE novice of network technologies we would like to know if this machine has the ability to host an INTERNAL website.

She has been tasked with finding out how/if she can replace alot of paperbased/frequently used documentation on a company webpage, so ONLY the users in the company have access.

Can anyone educate us as to the basic features of SBS2000 or
if any EXTRA software is necessary to do this.
She has been told it has file server capabilites, but with our limited knowledge we think this is different from a web server.

We have looked at many websites for info on SBS2000, but alas, with our extremely limited knowledge we havent been able to determine WHAT exactly OR extra software is needed, if any?

If you can follow my question, please eduacte us as to what we should enquire to verify this.

Thanks

What you need there is IIS (Internet Information Server). It is distributed even with Windows 2000 professional.
Then, you can have a custom aplication(basedon ASP for example), that will use a database for storage. For the beginning you can assure the storage via Jet database (MS Access) then you can migrate to an SQL server. If you need help for developing such application, I can help you.
There are also all sort of applications already done, that are having their own requirements. They could be grouped under a generic term: content management or document management applications.
