internal 3.5 Multi Card Reader

I bought a cheap multi card reader off of ebay , dont know the manufacturer as it came in a generic box, theres a picture of the model here

the instructions came written on tissue paper and arent at all helpful at all.

To sum up it says

Cable Pin 1(VCC) is the USB power pin and mst be connected to motherboard USB connector Pin 1

then in black and white it goe s

Internal USB is consist of red white green and black wires . Each colour wire shall be connected to a speccific pin to the usb header of the motherboard

Colour Red: VCC Power
White D-
Green D+
Black GND

Then there is a black and white photo of the cable.

Then the cable they actually sent us is actually all white. as in the picture

My motherboard is a MSI P965 Neo,

I have three USB pin ports on the motherboard, port 3 is currently connected to the front usb ports on my case.

In my manual for hte usb ports it says the following for the pins
1 2
VCC VCC
USB0-::USB0+
USB1-::USB1+
GND::GND
KEY::USBOC
9 10
I ahve tried several combinations of plugging the cable in on tboth the card reader and the pins to no success, except once none of my other usb devices would work.

does anyone have any idea on how to proceed with this ?

I'd suggest that if you've already tried all 4 ways that you can connect it and none of them work, you've either fried it or it was faulty to start with. With those 'block' connectors there are only two ways you can plug them in, but it's still pretty daft of them not to label it somehow.

You could try this one from Dabs for under fifteen quid:

I have one of the latter and it has been fine so far.

Hey, Nelviticus , I like the idea of that second one. Since you have it, you'd know this. Does it connect via USB, or does it connect via the floppy connection? I'm guessing USB, but I'd like to verify it with someone who owns one of those.

Both. You can think of it as a slim floppy drive and a slim card reader squeezed together in one unit, so it needs three cables - USB, floppy data and floppy power.

Ahh, thanks for the info. I hope I won't need either the floppy nor the multicard reader for some time, but if I do, I'll keep this in mind when looking. I used to have one floppy, and one multicard reader in my "main" computer. However, now those spaces are taken up with hard drives. But it is good to know, in case something changes.
