i have a problen whereby my win98 clients can only login sme of the time, the rest of the time they get a 'incorrect password, or access to your logon server has been denied.' error.
There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, and I have two win2000 client that are having no problem.
Any ideas?

There are a number of things that could be wrong. Are all the Win 98 users plugged into the same "switch" or "hub"? If so, you may have a bad piece of networking equipment.

Are you using TCP/IP as the only protocol? If so, are you using DHCP or have you assigned static addresses to everyone?

If it were me, I'd try this: edit the LMHOST file in their c:\windows directory and add an entry for your Login server (PDC) There should be a sample file there called lmhost.sam you can use this and just rename it lmhost.

Put a copy of that on every Win 98 and see if it helps. It may be having a problem resolving the name of the server.

Just a thought. Good luck!
