I have an Access database with tables linked to SQL. It works for all users except one who occassionally gets a login error. Normally the error only occurs in the morning. I've never encountered this scenario before so I'm looking for any ideas on what might be causing this?

ERROR:
Connection Failed:
SQLState: '01000'
[Microsoft][OCBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][OCBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Thank you

Have you confirmed that this login can 'see' the SQL Server through other means?

How are you connecting to the tables also?

Hope this helps,

Alex

His connection works half the time so it wouldn't seem to be an issue with login. This may come down to a hardware issue or interference from another process.

The connection is from Access to SQL via ODBC linked tables using a File DSN and Windows Authentication. One of the first things I did was look at the MDAC version in the registry and it's 2.8x, which shouldn't result in these issues. However I do have to add that the Access version is 2000 as the application attached to it doesn't recognize newer versions. Don't get me started on that topic ;-).

Thanks!

I take it the application won't allow you to connect straight to SQL Server either ;-)

Is there anything different about OS, access version, etc... on your problem machine?

Sadly the application is built to pass through the Access database (supports Access only configurations). There is no different in the OS or the primary Access version, however I haven't done a comparison of exact versions. I can't imagine why any version differences would cause an intermittent issue like this though.
