Hi -

I have a database set up in a multi-user environment. Most of the time, it works fine, but I have had a few instances where a user tries to edit a field on a form and the message "Could not update; currently locked" comes up. The field is not set up as a locked field, and again, it usually is not an issue. I can't figure out why it would only happen on occasion.

Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks,
Evelyn

Its possible that the form's Record Lock property is set to Edited Record. This would prevent entries if someone else is currently in that record. Personally, I wouldn't suggest removing this lock (so long as it's not set to All Records) as this reduces the chance that one person's changes would be overwritten by another's.

Thanks - I checked it out and the property is set to "No locks" (although now I guess I should consider changing it!) - so that's not it! Any other thoughts?

One other place to check... In the Options - Advanced tab, is the checkbox filled for "Open databases using record-level locking"? Is it possible as individual "exploring" has done so on their local front end?

Yes, that checkbox is filled. I don't know how that happened as I created it and never checked it. Should this be "unchecked"? How does it differ from the form's "Record Lock" property you mentioned earlier? Ideally, I would not want someone else to edit a record when another is doing so, so should I uncheck this box and change the form property to "edited record" as you mentioned earlier?

Thank you so much for all your help!!

Personally, I do not use this checkbox, preferring to set the lock in the form's properties. I don't think there is much of a difference between the 2 as far as what they actually do, but by setting the lock property in the form, the designer has a little more control IMO.
