For those of you who are not familiar with it, Project Gutenberg is a non-profit organization that is converting to text files books that are in the public domain so that anyone can download and read them. See for more information.
A couple of weeks ago I found a great group that is connected to the Project call Project Gutenberg Distributed Proofreaders ( It provides a means for multiple people to proofread books that have been scanned in so that they can ultimately be uploaded to the Project Gutenberg site.
It relates to the subject of this forum in that they have some very good proofreading guidelines that are applicable to many of the subjects that are discussed in this forum.
If you're interested, I highly recommend registering on the site and working with these folks. They'd like everyone to do about a page a day (10-15 minutes or more depending on the difficulty of the book), but will be appreciative of whatever you're able to devote to it.
