Hi,

I recently installed Windows 98se on a ThinkPad 600e.

I'm having a problem the network card. I installed the network card and it worked fine, but it will not let go of the first IP address it received via DHCP.

Now I can uninstall the pc card, then reinstall it, and it still has the same IP address even before I connect it to the network.

Any ideas?

I installed the network card at school.

The laptop received an IP address on the school's network.

Now I can manually change the IP address, but when I set <obtain IP address automatically> that same IP address from the school's network remains.

Even if I uninstall the network card, then reinstall it, the same IP address from the school's network remains.

When I connect the laptop to the network at work I still have the same IP address that I received at school.

The laptop isn't receiving a new IP address when it connects to different networks with working DHCP servers.

There are several ways to fix this.

It's normal to get same ip adress at school each time
as the dhcp server knows your adapers mac address and sets a lease on the ip adress used to 20 days or something .

At work if there is a dhcp server
and properties is set to obtain ip address it should get a new one .

When you change properties you have to renew the adapter settings.

Use
run
winipcfg
Release all
renew all

thanks,

That is what *should* work, but it doesn't.

This is just a wild guess but since it remains after an uninstall is it possible the ip address ended up in the registry somewhere? Try doing a search in regedit for the ip address.
