So we were installing an IPO 403 running 3.0 (59) at a client site. Very basic, 3 phones (2 3810's, 1 6408) and 2 phone lines. For some reason, any time we called out, or received a call on the 3810's, the mic was extreamly "hot". What I mean is I could be in the front of the store on the phone, someone in the back of the store sneezes, and the person on the other end of the line could hear. This was 3810 to 3810 as well as inbound/outbound, however when we called the 6408, the problem wasn't there.
So... after a while of head banging against the wall, some talks with Avaya, one of our techs had an idea. We had the 3810's plugged into ports 2 and 3 on the unit. He moved one of the phones to port 8 and this resolved the problem.
Strangest thing I've ever seen. We had the antena's more than 10 feet away and followed all the other guidlines of grounding the system, etc.
I'll never stop being amazed I suppose. Just thought I'd post in case anyone else runs into this issue.
