We have several 95 machines that are locked down via a local policy. On many of these we are now getting temporary license issues when they log into Citrix (not related) So these machines can get a new license we have to go into the registry and delete the MSLicensing key under HKLM\Software\MS.

I'm looking for any help in autmoating this process. On the local machines registry editing has been disabled. I hoping someone might help automate the allowing of registry editing and the removal of the key in a batch file?

Any help would be appreciated.

Here's a MS KB article on how to use .reg files to do what you're talking about. You can run a .bat file on log in to import the .reg file and fix the key.

I use kixtart for all my scripting needs, you can simply add the line

delkey("keytodelete") and away it goes. You could use WSH or a host of other options, but I honestly prefer kixtart.

On second pass I see I've missed an important fact here. I'm not familiar with local policy on windows 95. Are you actually disallowing access to the registry somehow, or simply preventing the user from using regedit?

Yes it registry is locked down (no regedit) so the user account won't work. Issue is there are no standard admin account for these machines.

On a Windows 95 box there are no security permissions within the registry so any user can write to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

If you want to delete it, you'll need to look at the utility "reg.exe" but I can't remember where to get it from, that will allow you to delete registry keys from a script.

However, won't you run out of licenses with your TS CALS?

Cheers,
Carl.
