Hi All,

Following are the three routers that I have I want to connect, between each other directly, in a Lab enviroment.

Configuring the IOS to connect them should not be an issue, however I need help on what modules, cables should I use to get atleast the physical/hardware connected or is that even possible between these series of routers.

Also what other options do I have using the following equipment or additional equipment.

Thanks for reading and helping.

Cisco 2610
Modules:
>WIC-2T
>IEEE 802.3 Ehternet
>ISDN BRI 1 port

Cisco 4000M
Modules:
>1-Port 10BaseT Ethernet NPM (NP-1E)
>2-Port Serial NPM (NP-2T)
>4-Port ISDN BRI NPM (NP-4B)

Cisco 2503
Modules
>1 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
>2 Serial network interface(s)
>1 ISDN Basic Rate interface(s)

Looks like you can use X21 connections between all of them. Any of them could support being a hub in a hub and spoke type network as they all have 2 serials.

For a serial connection, you'll need a CAB-X21-MT and CAB-X21-FC which allow you to cable the routers back to back.

Hopefully the Ethernet's are self-explanatory but you can either cable each router directly to another by using an RJ45 crossover cable. Alternatively you can cable them all to a switch/hub using standard straight RJ45 cables.

For the ISDN connections, you'll need an ISDN simulator of some description to simulate a dialup network. I'm sure Ebay has plenty of these knocking about. I use one from a company called Patapsco (
Hope this helps
