Inter-office phones on same outgoing line like on a home phone?

I can't figure out how 2 or more people at my office can pick up the same line, like you can on home phones. When you try to at the office, it just makes this beeping noise and you're unable to pick it up if one other person is already on the line. How can you have a sort of inter office conference call?
 
What type of system? Sounds like a norstar. Wrong forum if it is.

the "quick features" paper card says its a norstar M7310, but elsewhere it says northern telecom meridian M7324
