Intellimouse Jumps When Using Scroll Wheel

Since getting a new PC and XP Home (upgrading to Pro tomorrow) my Microsoft Intellimouse seems to be playing up. When I use the scroll wheel the page seems to jump a few lines.....basically it doesn't scroll smoothly. I've checked the Mouse options and played with the wheel options but this doesn't help.

Is it possible I need to install a driver? I thought it was just plug and play.

There is an advanced Intellimouse option that lets you select how many lines to scroll with each 'click' of the wheel. I have mine set to 3 lines, you can set it to a whole page if you want.
