I was told by a Dell representative that Windows 2000 does not support HyperThreading. Seeing the sales people are not the most technical people, I simply didn't worry about it at first.

I then got a second source telling me the same thing.... Funny thing is, I find no reference of such a thing and I would think it would be a serious enough topic to speak about.

I've got Win2k systems running with and without HT and I see no difference which may suggest they are right.

Does anybody have a good reference source on this topic? A good link would be appreciated, especially if from MS or Intel.

So far, I've seen that it might be possible for the server versions to use it and WinXP. It seems that W2K Pro don't use the technology....

It is true. Windows 2000 doesn't make use of Hyper threading. Only Windows XP Home and Professional. I've seen that you actually want to disable it in the bios as it can cause performance issues. Also, a few flavors of Linux and I think one other type of OS makes use of it.
