I have several MS Excel instruction books and rely on them every day. While my Microsoft "Running" and Que "Using" books give excellent instruction--from beginner to advanced--on the functionality of Excel, I find the sections regarding formulas and functions very obtuse.

I've learned from these books the finer points of APPLYING formulas to various solutions, but I think there's much to be desired in the way of instructing how to CONSTRUCT formulas and functions.

I bought a book that focuses exclusively on formulas, but, again, it speaks to someone who already posseses a knowledge base of what the various syntax mean and protocols of the hundreds of formulas contained therein.

If anyone knows a book or resource that begins "at the beginning", so to speak, with regard to formulas and functions I'd appreciate to know about it.

I consider myself in the "intermediate-advanced" category in most areas of the application, but when it comes to formula and function-building I'm a real dud.

Thanks for your help.

Candy,

Build your formulas from the inside out -- one step at a time. Test and then add to it.

Skill only comes with practice, looking at examples, asking questions and trying stuff out. I have been doing spreadsheets for 18 years and VBA coding in Excel for 12.

I like John Walkenback -- he has good books!

You may be able to get some good stuff there.

Skip,

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep at it!

I already love j-walk.com (but it'll never replace Tek-Tips!)

Thx,
