Hi --

I have been trying to install Dreamweaver and I am pretty sure that the problem is with my computer rather than Dreamweaver which is why I am posting here. When I try to run the installation, it starts up and extracts some files and then I get an error message saying: "The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched. The RPC server is unavailable." I have tried deleting the engine folder for InstallShield and deleting temp files. I have tried installing it in Safe Mode. I am able to install other programs with no problem. I even could install ColdFusion with no problem and that came off the same CD as Dreamweaver is on. I don't know what the RPC server is so I can't even begin to know how to make it "available" again. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, I would really really appreciate it!!!

Thank you -- Kate

Kate,
You might start by verifying if the Remote Procedure Call service is running. Goto Control Panel, Administrator tools, services. It should be set to automatic and it should be started.

If it is set to manual: try setting it to auto, then right click on it to start it, then try installing your software.

If it is set to auto and it is not started: Check in the event viewer for clues as to why it is not running.

Hope this at least points you in the right direction.
