Just got a del 8250 that came with XP (not my choice). Attempting to install win2k server on a brand new HD, and and keeping the smaller HD that came with the computer as E: drive.

I do go through the installation, I create partition, and format it, but once it gets to the end where it reboots the system, it hangs. When I use a bootable disk, I do not see any drives except for A:.

I have called Dell and they tell me taht they will not help me since the system was shipped with XP and won't support anything that does not have to do with XP! One person even told me that the system was configured to work only with XP!!! I do not know enough to confirm or dispute that!

Any ideas anyone?

See if your harddrive is not installed on ATA controller interface. If so, you need the drivers of your ATA controller interface (usually part of your motherboard). Then when you install windows you have to press F6 at the beginning of install ("Install additional disk drives, scsi,..").
Check the BIOS too. ATA controllers are similar with SCSI. So, many times is enough to ask in the BIOS to boot SCSI, or the controller that exist (sometimes there is specified there, like eg: "ATA100..".).
If you don't have the drivers of the ATA controller, open the system and attach the harddrive to the IDE interface. You will loose performance, but it will work. Gia Betiu
