I have a test network setup at home comprising of a win2k advanced server which has RIS installed. I am trying to install win2k pro on another machine but I am having a bit of a problem. I can use the bootable floppy to connect to the RIS server, I get an IP address etc. It is only when win2k starts to install that I get the problems. I get to the windows setup screen and the files start to copy but after a while the screen just goes black and nothing else happens. I have checked the win2k server and all settings appear correct. The machine I am trying to install on consists of the following:

Athlon 900 cpu
128Mb
3com 3c905B TX network card connected using crossover cable

Disk 1 - partition1 5Gb win98 fat32
partition2 10Gb fat32 (used for data)

Disk 2 - partition1 3Gb win2k server
partition2 3Gb (I want to install pro here)
(both partitions ntfs)

I have looked on the technet website but have not been able to find anything helpful. If anyone has any ideas as what the problem could be I would be very grateful.

It could be your NIC being non RIS compatable, or the hub or switch could be blocking the log on, but, I would try installing this first:
Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 Network install & Symbols
