Installing Terminal Services on an existing 2003 Server 1

Hi all,

Currently my customer uses Admin mode for the two concurrent connection but needs more than the two.

He has asked for more TS connections and I believe the only way forward with this is to instal fully blown TS. The server is an existing DC carrying the Global catalogue and sits physicaly beside a BDC running exchange.

When I initiate the add remove I am warned that the applications installed will not work and will need re-installing.

My questions are:

Does this warning mean the applications will not work through a TS login or not at all including connected directly to the console?
Is there any major reasons why I should not go through with the install of TS on this server?
Does the install of TS affect users that are using resources from this server through a standard login, not Term services session?
Any advice would be invaluable as I dont really want to go through with this without some facts to hand.

If you're in ADMIN mode, you're not supposed to be running application other than for administrative purposes (MMC snapins, etc). If you have users connecting and running business applications, you're in severe violation of licensing rules. You would have to switch TS to application mode and reinstall the apps. You'll also have to install TS licensing and purchase the appropriate licenses.

Making these changes shouldn't affect users who are using non-TS related resources on the server. YMMV

you can change your TS mode without losing previously installed applications, however, if they were not installed via Add/Remove Programs, you might have issues with the TS session using them. All programs must now be installed via Add/Remove Programs after you switch modes.

Your DC should not have too many client apps installed already though, as most MS apps should work fine.

Or, from a command prompt, using
change user /install
and then, when finished, using
change user /execute

I'd also make the other DC (the one running Exchange) a Global Catalog if it's not already.
