I have a IDE hard drive already and from which the computer boots from. I want to install an additional SCSI hard drive and a SCSI tape backup drive on my computer. Is this feasible?

I have a spare SCSI adapter, SCSI cable, SCSI hard drive, and SCSI tape drive from another computer but no documentations. I need to know how I can set up these drives and put them to use. I am using Win2000 OS. Thanks for any inputs.

Yes, this is feasible.
Visit your SCSI adapter manufacturer's website and download the manual or installation guide. While you are there also download the latest drivers.
You may need to do the same for your hard drive and tape drive.
If you don't have experience setting up a SCSI device you may need to get help from someone who does.
Give me more info if you need additional help.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I plugged in the SCSI card, the SCSI drive, and the tape drive. When I rebooted the computer, I do not see any additional letter drives for the SCSI drive or the tape drive.

I checked the Device Manager and looks like Win2000 has all the drivers necessary for the card, the hard drive and the tape drive. I see them all on the device list and it says all of the above devices are functioning properly and showing no conflicts.

I have the following configurations:
---------------------------------------
2 existing IDE drives:
- Maxtor: Location 0(0)
- Western: Loaction 1(1)

For the additional SCSI:
- Adaptec PCI SCSI Adapter: Location 1(PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0)
- Quantum Fireball SCSI: Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0
- Exabyte Tape drvive: Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0
---------------------------------------------
Are there anything wrong with the above listed configuation that would interfere with Win2000 listing the drives? I do not have an end plug for the SCSI cable, would this be the reason why I don't see a letter drive for the SCSI drive? This is the first time I have ever install a SCSI so things are not obvious to me and any helps is much appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry,
The configuation for the Exabyte Tape Drive should be:
Exabyte Tape Drive: Bus number 0, Target ID 6, LUN 0

Assuming that you need to fdisk and format. OS won't see the drive until it has a filesystem that it can recognize.
Terminator is important, but termination can be set on the hard drive. Without termination you can get some really wierd stuff happening. Same wierd stuff if you have 2 terminations. Ed Fair
