Installing new MIDI drivers 1

I am running Windows XP Pro, and I'm having a conflict with a certain program that needs to play MIDIs. For some reason, the program isn't detecting my current driver, although it is detecting an MPU401 and a Microsoft MIDI mapper. Neither of those seems to produce any sound.

Other programs playing midi on the computer are working fine, so it's not the actual driver that has the issue.

I've been trying to install a brand new MIDI driver, but I can't figure out how to do it on XP.

Now to find a driver that works.
Can I use MIDI Yoke like a normal driver, or is it only a connector and nothing else? I'm not quite clear on what it is.

Ok, well, I've answered my own question on the Midi yoke... it's just a connector.

Now, I just realized that my MIDI driver is hidden under the Legacy Audio Drivers in the Drivers Manager, it's not an independent thing under Sound, Video, and Game drivers.. I'm guessing this might be why my program isn't detecting it.

If anyone understands what I'm trying to say, do you have any clue how I can my midi driver to show outside of the legacy audio drivers properties??

What is the name of the program which needs to play Midi files. Also what is the name of the file you are trying to install? Is it an .Inf file with a right-click facility to an install option?

The program is called Sonar 2.0, it is made by a company called Cakewalk

It seems that I goofed on the previous post, the MIDI driver isn't under Legacy Audio Drivers, it's under my C-Media AC97 Audio Device.

I haven't tried to install any files yet. The audio drivers that are currently installed were auto-installed by the setup CD that came with my K7SOM+ Motherboard.

I should probably also note that the program itself seems to be running fine. I can write a midi, save it, and open it on windows media player without a problem. I just can't play the midi back on the original program.

Have you tried your luck with the programs Support and Help. There seems to be some discussion about DirectX and other matters?

Please help if you can! I have been on this for days now. I have a Roland xv-88 -- midi in & out to Midiman 2x2 (A), Audio in/out thru Behringer mixer, then:::::: in-out B on Midiman 2x2 TO M-AUDIO AUDIOPHILE SOUND CARD....So far, so good, but, when I use Cakewalk, even though I downloaded all the XV-88 instrument files, and set up the tracks as Midi 1, 2 etc. only can play back 1 midi track at a time and it has to be set to the Roland Channel setting at the time (1,2,.etc...) -- i.e. if the Roland is on Channel 1, then I hear channel 1, etc. Cannot playback a channel 2 track at all -- I used to be able to do this effortlessly when I had my rotten Sound Blaster Audigy card, but, now that I upgraded to pro stuff -- doesn't work --
