I have all windows based operating systems and Linux RH7.2 I am new to the IT industry and want to get Novell certified. I have a copy of Novell Netware server 4.11 that I got in an educational packet. Does anyone have some simple webpages or instructions on how to get it installed. It will not let me install over winNT and 98 seems to crash every time I try to install through that OS.

I would really try to get a demo copy of Netware 5.1 if at all possible. Novell doesn't offer certs in 4.11 anymore and there are some fairly significant differences between 4.11 and 5.1 that you will need to know before taking any tests.

As for the install you will need to fdisk the hard drive. Then create about a 500mb DOS partition. Format that partition as FAT16 and install a flavor (MS or DR) DOS to it. Make sure you have installed DOS cd drivers and that you can read a CD in DOS as I'm not sure if the Netware 4.11 CD is bootable. Then pop in the CD and run the install program. During the install you will be prompted to create a SYS partition. Think of this as your c:\windows directory. It is where the actual OS files and device drivers are located. I would size this at a minimum of 2gb. You can then create additional volumes which is where you save your data files and applications. Also make sure you have drivers for your NIC card. Good luck & please keep us up on your progress.
