Wasn't sure wether to post this in mysql forum or linux forum, as many of you seem to be Windows mysql users. I'm a linux newbie but experienced with mysql on windows system, and trying to port everything over to linux.
I'm running slackware, 7.1 I think, which comes with mysql 3.23 installed.
When I try to start mysqld, it says "starting mysqld etc..." then immediately "mysqld ended." In the server.err file it says something like "Mysql got signal 11" followed by some cryptic debugging info. I've read the docs at mysql.com forward and backward and haven't figured anything out. I've tried it from the 3.23 install that came with slackware and with the latest 4.0.9 gamma from mysql.com, both fom the binaries and a souce install, all with the same results.

Any help is most appreciated
Thanks,
Greg
