I know how to do it in 5.0.x systems, but not in 4.x....

I get stuck when in sysadmsh printer config, it asks me for "class name", "destination", "name of interface" ?

Do I have to obtain a SCO driver from the manufacturer?

We prefer to connect the printer via TCP/IP, but serial connection is a 2nd choice. (networking is enabled and working on the server)

And what about rlpconf ?

Hope This Help, PH.

Class name can be left blank. Destination is /dev/lp0 or other hardware path. Interface is probably HP or something similar. Hit [F3] to get a list of interfaces.
There are the hardware connection versions. I'm clueless on the network.

PH,

Thanks for the rlpconf tip. I didn't know about it.
I'm hooking up an HP laserjet compatible with built-in JetDirect, IP=10.0.0.126

I added an entry in /etc/hosts: laser 10.0.0.126
I can ping printer "laser"

So, when I go into rlpconf,

(1) printer name = laser
(2) choose 'l' for local printer (not remote)
(3) name of the device for laser ????

What's the name of the device?

No, choose remote.
The name of the remote host would be "laser" too.

Guys, I'm very close, thanks to you.

I did the rlpconf thing, it seems OK.

Now I need to create a printer in sysadmsh, right?

SYSADMH printer config -> ADD
Printer Name = laser
comment =
class name =
use printer interface [existing]
name of interface = HPLaserJet
connection = Call up (not direct)
device name dialup info = laser
device HardWired (not Login)
Require banner = NO

Correct ???

Drat.

Sysadmsh printer config gives me back an error:

UX:lpadmin: ERROR: Error reading printer information for "laser"
(Bad file number).

What did I do wrong?

SYSADMH printer config -> ADD
Printer Name = laser
comment =
class name =
use printer interface [existing]
name of interface = HPLaserJet
connection = Call up (not direct)
device name dialup info = laser
device HardWired (not Login)
Require banner = NO

Thanks in advance!

Just to be sure I'm in the same ball park as you:

I did rlpconf.
That didn't add a printer entry to lpstat -t, so I assume I still need to define a printer in sysadmsh. Correct?

4.2 is very old stuff unfortunately out of my mind.
I'm afraid I forgot to say that you should do
[tt]mkdev rlp[/tt]
in order to enable remote printing.
BTW, with remote printers, no need to define anything with sysadmsh.

Hope This Help, PH.
