I have just upgraded my NT4 PDC to W2K and installed active directory, all seems fine and users logging in ok, profiles etc. all seem fine. I now want to introduce a second W2K server to run Exchange 2000. My question is as follows:

1. Does my Exchange server need to be running Active Directory or does it just need to be logged into the domain?

2. are there any other issues I should be aware of before I begin.

Thanks for your help.

Con.

1) Server just needs to be a domain member.
2) Run Setup /ForestPrep and then Setup /DomainPrep prior to running the actual setup of E2K. You'll need to have NNTP installed on the server as well. Also, the account that you use to do the install must be able to modify the Forest Schema...

Thanks Brontosarus, I am logging the nes server onto the domain as administrator, can you explain how I run the setup /forestprep and setup /domainprep and on which server when I enter the command I just get a pop up window with setup switches.

Thanks again.

Well, seeing as you only have one domain in the Forest (correct?), you can run it from any DC. So, from whatever drive your Exchange CD is...
SETUP /FORESTPREP
SETUP /DOMAINPREP

Actually, since you only have the one domain/small forest, just running a regular setup will perform the forestprep and domainprep for you.
