I am trying to install the exchange admin tools from the Exchange 2000 CD on a Windows XP SP1 workstation. I have followed the directions as listed on, which is a great site.

My issue is the when I try to select Typical, Custom, ect... I get the error "Install has encountered an unknown error". Also the PATH textbox is greyed out.

This message is alot of help!!

Any ideas..

Those instructions worked great. Thanks for posting that. I had been wondering how to get that accomplished.
About your error, does anything show up in the logs? Does the install just die after it gets that error?

The install goes to a screen stating that en error occured and to click finish. The setup exits.

What does the setup progress.log say? You should find your answer there. What are you logged on as? The ESM install extends some display extenders in the configuration container. You'll need to be logged on as an admin, or at least have write permissions to the configuration container, to complete the install.
