Hi guys,
A).
we are about to install DNS on our Windows Server 2003 which still is a member server of our old NT-Domain but which is going to be promoted to the 1st DomainController of a new Win 2003 domain shortly.

Is there anything we have to take into account when installing this DNS-server ?
Can we just use the Wizard and install it and later add ActiveDirectory to it ?
I was told we need a DDNS-Server - is the default DNS-Server which W2K3 installs a DDNS-Server ?
B).
Do you know if there are any complications if we use a second DNS-Server (under NT) which also is a primary DNS-Server ?
Any hint is appreciated. Thanks.
Thorsten

Hi. Windows DNS is Dynamic DNS, however it only becomes dynamic when Automatic Updates is turned on (i.e. when AD replicates the DNS info between DC's). I would make the 2003 box your primary DNS server and use the NT box as a secondary. However, the NT would need to be a pull partner and a the 2003 a push partner to ensure the records correspond. Easiest thing is remove the DNS service from NT and use the 2003 for DNS and when you upgrade or install a new DC, turn on Automatic updates, and all DNS info will be replicated.

Hope this helps.
