Some time ago I had some serious problems installing AS2000 on MF 1.8 running on TSE 4 (but the text below might be an issue for W2000 as well).
The problem was solved by copying the entire cd to the local disk and editing a specific file (see text below).
Title: Installing ARCserveIT 6.6, Agents and Options to machines that do not
have "C:\" drives
Product: ARCserveIT 6.6x for NT
The following steps need to be followed in order to install ARCserveIT 6.6
to a machine that does not have a "C:\" drive (e.g., various scenarios with
products such as Citrix Winframe and Microsoft Terminal Server)
Copy the entire \IntelNT folder (about 210 MB) from the CD to a
temporary directory. (It can be a local or remote location.)
Locate the file called Install.rsp, and disable the Read-Only
attribute on it. (The file is found in the \License directory, under the
temporary \IntelNT folder.)
Edit the file using a text editor, and go to the sections:
[destination_path]
1,"C:\CA_LIC"
2,"C:\CA_LIC"
[caapps_path]
"C:\CA_APPSW"
Change the "C:" on each line to the drive letter you want
ARCserveIT installed to.
Save the file.
Run Setup.EXE from the \IntelNT\ARCserve.IT folder.
As the install runs, change the install paths for \ARCSERVEIT, and
\ALERT to the same drive letter as you indicated above.
Make sure to run RegisterIT from the CA Registration program group
in the Start menu.
NOTE: If ARCserve had already been installed incorrectly, uninstall it. Make
sure the \ARCSERVEIT and \ALERT folders have been removed, as well as the
\CA_LIC and \CA_APPSW folders. Also check that the following registry
entries have been removed. To do this, run Regedt32.exe and delete the
following keys if they still exist:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ComputerAssociates\License
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ComputerAssociates\ARCserveIT
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASDBEngine
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASDiscoverySvc
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASJobEngine
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASMsgEngine
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASTapeEngine
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cheyenne Alert
Notification Server
Once these keys have been removed, restart the machine and check the Event
Viewer for any errors. If everything starts fine, then you are ready to
install to the new path.
Good luck....
