I am trying to install the Sims/Living it up and Hot date.I had it running on my computer a year ago, but it started freezing etc. My computer has been scan disked, defragged and is running ok according to the tests on Pitstop.com.

I tried to install the above with anti virus and zonealarm, plus all background tasks switched off, and it goes ok until the last part of Hot date installation, when a message pops up ie

CRC error The fileC\program files\maxis\the sims\game data objects\objects.far does not match the file in the setups.cab file. The medium from which you are running the set up may be corrupted. Contact your software vendor
Abort/retry/ignore.

I pressed ignore and the set up completes. When I try to run the game, it starts on the intro, but when you try to play, it just drops back to the desktop. Like I say we had it running a while ago, so how can the software be corrupt?
Any one help or direct me to a Sims help forum?

If it's not a damaged media......

I just installed the Smms on my daughter's computer and one thing I noticed in the documentation is that the expansion pack have to be installed before the main program. If you install the expansion packs after, you need to reinstall the original simms program after.

Thanks jakrabit and smah, somebody at work also told me that my installing CD drive might need cleaning.

Ref your comment smah, I am running Windows ME, I believe that the Sims deluxe works the way you said, however this only runs on XP. According to the instructions with my game, the Sims main program has to be installed then consecutive expansion packs. Thanks again!

As an update I checked the website link above and found a registry clean up file, which I downloaded and ran.
I then fully reinstalled and although I got the same CRC error message (twice!) I carried on with the install and so far the game is working. Apparently this is a common problem when the game is uninstalled and the reinstalled.
