installed software, can't connect no more!!!

We installed sql with all default settings, using sa as our login!
We have recently (thursday) installed some software that uses users in its own database to log people in. ever since i installed and started using this i have had problems with SQL ie. canot odbc to it, cannot oledb to it. the only thing that does work is the software itself.

Do i need to reset the sa password or something, i haven't had a problem previously and now its grounded me. our web doesn't work (cause it can't contact the tables), our intranet doesn't work..... etc etc and i'm in work on a saturday!!! so any help is much appreciated.

Another thing to this, i get 2 sql server selections when i run an odbc, both for the same sql server (and we only have one).

We also have an error that kicks in now and again of
Error: 15457 Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 1. run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.....

I'm guessing these are contributory factors.

Any help is better than mine
