I have a new T3306 with a 100GB hard drive. I'm trying to add a Western Digital 160GB drive as a 2nd drive. With both cable connections attached, the machine won't boot and the BIOS shows no hard drives at all.

On the other hand, connecting either one without the other works fine. (The second drive is not bootable, but shows up fine in the BIOS and is accessable from a dos boot disk.) Therefore, I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the cables, the power supply, or the disks themselves.

I've tried every jumper combination I can think of in terms of master-slave and "cable select."

The emachines disk is a (Seagate?) ST3100011A 100GB, the Western Digital is WD1600JB, and the BIOS is "Phoenix Award BIOS". I don't know much about BIOS settings beyond the basic, so I don't know if there is something that could be changed there. I just got this computer and I don't want to mess anything up!

Can anyone help?

Never mind. I rechecked the jumper diagrams and found I was turned around 180 degrees on one of the drives. Sorry. Go ahead and delete the whole thread, if you like.

I bet most or all of us have been confused between the jumper diagram and which was was up on the hard drive!
