I am new to Windows server software.
I have a new computer that came with Windows XP on.
I wanted to install Windows 2003 server (evaluation version)which I have downloaded from MS website in the last few days.

Initially when I tried installing via booting from the Windows 2003 CD I made I received the following error on restart (after the initial copying of files)

Blue Screen
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xC0000043, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

After I restarted I got this error:
Windows couldn't start because the following file is missing or corrupt <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

I then decided I should format the Hard Disk before trying to install Windows 2003 (I did this using the Windows XP CD that came with the computer).
I then tried to install Windows 2003 server and it goes through all the blue screen part where its copying drivers etc, then it tells me that Setup didn't find any hard drives.

The computer I am using is a DELL and has an SATA HDD, do you think this would cause a problem?

Thanks in advance,

Emily

Yep ... this is a driver issue ... with the SATA drive i would suspect.

You XP cd will have the SATA driver on it so will install to that device just fine. You will need to speak to DELL ... or goto thier website to get the SATA driver ... then when you begin installing server 2003 hit F6 for 3rd party drivers ... plop in your floppy disk with the SATA driver and bobs your job!

Although Dell didn't have the drivers on their website, I went along to the HD manufacturer's webiste and downloaded a SIG SATA controller card driver and a SATA RAID controller card driver.

I tried each and then both and nothing seems to work.

Manufacturer is Western Digital BTW,

Thanks
Emily
