Recently; I cannot get any installation CD's to run on my XP PC. I've checked several install CD's. Nothing works. When I put in the CD (no other programs running), the initial menu appears, but the install program never opens. I've clicked on the "install" button for these various programs as well as going direct to the "set-up" .exe file on the CD - I cannot get any new programs to install. I've done a defrag just in case. Any suggestions? I'm confused! .... floydfrick@comcast.net

Have you tried the install as the Administrator? I have not worked on XP yet, but I have hear that it is supposed to be stripped down NT, but it is supposed to run pretty good I have been told. Also, have you run a virus check, with the latest update? Do you have the latest service packes installed? How full is your drive, is it more than 93% full? How much space do you have on your drive and how large is the program that you are trying to install? Hope that this suggestions help you out, good luck.

Thanks for the info Quest4 ... but yes, I checked, I am signed into the computer as an administrator, I have checked windows and installed the latest updates and have 18gig of HD space left. I have not yet run a virus check. I have tried 3 different install CD's and none will work. The install CD's get to the option to click "install" - then nothing happens. Not sure if it's related, but several other strange things are happening: 1) When I boot the computer it always shows a window of the folder C:\windows\system32, 2) When I shut down the PC, it indicates that program: "0" was running and is shutting down. ... and finally; 3)suddenly my scanner will not work. ... HELP! THINGS ARE A MESS HERE AT FLOYD'S PC!!

This sounds like a potential virus/worm to me. Before you do ANYTHING, I would suggest you go out and buy Norton or McAfee anti-virus. Go on the internet and download all the updates. Do a full system scan. Also when was the last time your computer was not experiencing these problems? What were you doing on the computer before this started happening (downloading something on the internet, etc). This may help to isolate what is happening.

Floydski, I agree with Omega36, by what you are discribing at the end of your post it sounds like you may have caught a bug, and there are enough of them around. I personally use Norton for my virus protection because they also have extraction tools for the latest viruses, also goes to MS, they have a few ways of checking to see if you have the latest viruses and they also have extraction tools. Hope this helps you out, and in the future be careful of the e-mail you open and the programs you downlaod from the Internet or get from a friend on diskette. Good luck.
