Hi,

I want to install XP on my computer, however the installation will not boot from cd-rom.I cannot get any CD-ROM to boot and I have changed the settings in the BIOS.

I have started the computer via FD and copied the entire XP disk to my D drive - I then ran the set-up file within the I386 folder but it says it will not run in DOS.

Any ideas how to install XP via DOS?

cheers,

jono

1st things 1st, I have never been able to install Win XP when booting with an ME boot disk.

Easiest would be borrow a friends pc, go to microsofts site and download the XP floppy install files (I think its 6 floppies).

Else, boot with startup disc and choose cd-rom support. Change to cd-rom
cd \i386
winnt32 (return)

Has fouled once or twice but have used this way a number of times (not very fast though)

To start setup in Dos you go to c:\i386 on your hard drive and type WINNT. The Winnt32 is for starting from a Windows setting.

thanks guys. it worked a treat!

cheers
