Hello there,

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to install SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition on a server with more than 2GB of ram. In my reading it says standard handles up to 2GB, what happens when you exceed that? Does SQL only utilize 2GB anyway or does standard just not work with over 2GB RAM?

Thanks in advance

Katriona

I think you can exceed as much RAM as you want, SQl will only utilise 2GB (I actually thought the figure was 2GB).
Even in the enterprise/developer addition I think this is also true, but I think they have an advanced setting which allows you to use the AWE (Microsoft Address Windowing Extensions API) which allows SQl to use a maximum of 64GB
I also think AWE is dependant on the OS version and whether it is enabled on the OS.

Correct SQL 2000 Standard can use up to 2GB of memory. Any additional memory on the server can not be used by SQL. To use more memory than 2 GB you'll need to use Enterprise Edition.
