How do I install SQL Server 7.0 on windows 2000? It says it can't be installed on this OS?

SQL Server Standard cannot be installed on a non server OS.
If you are running Win2000 desktop, you must install the personal (desktop) version or MSDE.

I have tried that but it says that sfc.dll cannot be opened as read only. I have a copy from the system folder, but the dir it is looking in does not exist.

Sounds like you have a corrupt install. Have you tried copying the install files to your harddrive and installing from there rather than from the CD?

That is what I have done. I'll try to bring the CD back home tonight.
