Hi,
Our attitude to problems on XP clients is a rebuild is quicker than diagnostics.

I'd like to migrate more s/w deployment onto SMS but it doesn't appear to automatically reinstall s/w onto a PC that is rebuilt with the same name again (RIS install).

Is there a way to force SMS to redeploy the software?

Thanks,
Joe E.

This might be more than you are initially looking for but have you looked at OSDeployment? I'm in the process of converting my images from RIS to SMS. Once XP is reinstalled on the machine it will install any programs you want it to. It is also handy to be able to advertise OSes to machines. Have a bunch of kiosk type machines you want to rebuild weekly? Create a collection, set an advertisement, and you're done.

I don't know of any other way to force SMS to install software on a machine once it is reimaged.

Could this be an issue with duplicate guids created in the SMS database when the machine is re-imaged?

Check you System_Disc Workstation_Data tables for these clients and delete all guids associated except the latest.

This could confuse the agent and SMS may not be servicing the older Giud which is really not associated to the machine.

Software on 2003 checks the registry....so as long as those keys arent there it should re-install any active advertisement, with 2.0 there were the .000 files that showed if software was installed, (if you delete them the software will re-install)

If you re-imaging from one generic ghost cd, it should obsolete the guid (but thought if it saw a ghost image and a duplicate machine name it will just make a new guid on the machine name and obsolete the old guid/name...could be mistaken though)
