I have a Compaq Presario 7500 64MG RAM. I purchased a 128MG stick and tried to install it. The computer would only recognize 96MG and gave me a 201 memory error message.
I replaced the 64MG in its original position and put the 128MG in the spare slot = 192MG RAM however the computer would only recognize 160MG and also gave me a 201 memory error message. I would really appreciate any help with this problem.

I went to the Compaq site and it only has 32MB and 64MB showing for the Presario 7500. I'm surprised the 96MB read because the site says the 7500 only accepts 32MB and 64MB Ram in the DIMM slots.

The link above shows all the spare parts and the presario systems they will go in.

Good Luck,

Lori. Thanks for the reply. I have the manual for the 7500 and it tells me that I can install up to 512MG. I have spoken to a Tech friend who tells me that Compaq hide settings in the CMOS and that I will need to get a specail Compaw Startup disk to be able to change the setting from 64MG. Sneaky aren't they.
