A co-worker ran into a problem when trying to do an install using smitty. He gets the following error:

1800-106 An error occurred:

ksh: /usr/lib/instl/sm_inst: not found.

The file exists in that directory with permissions:

-r-x------

Probably he was trying install prior not switching to root account. You should install as user root.
