While installing internal modem in Windows 2000 the options available are COM1 & COM2. However Windows 2000 does not SCAN COM3 ON WHICH MODEM IN PRESENT NOR DOES IT GIVES AN OPTION TO SELECT. Pl. Help

honeymoon,

Unless you're using REALLY old software with your modem, the com port under Win2k is just an alias!

The important thing is the I/O, and IRQ settings. Under Win2k, you can change the com port to whatever you want:

1.) Right Click the "My Computer" icon, and click "Properties".
2.) Click the "Hardware" tab.
3.) Click the "Device Manager" button.
4.) Click the " + " next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
5.) Right Click the com port whose number you'd like to change, and click "Properties".
6.) Click the "Port Settings" tab.
7.) Click the "Advanced" button.
8.) Look down near the bottom for the com port selection drop down!

As you rightly said the mentioning COM numbers is eyewash. I tried changing but it did not help. In the device options, I see PCI slot which carries my modem but probably some conflicts (Yellow ?). When I try installing the modem it says the driver is not digitally signed.

Actually I have this modem working in Win98 & WinNT 4.0 & both the places it shows that it is using COM3. The modem is HSP65 Micromodem. How should I go about ? I can even send the I/O address & Interrupt request of the PCI slot it shows.
