I'm trying to set up a Shuttle SB62G2 with an F62 motherboard. This has a SATA controller with an ICH5R chipset, and both an onboad Intel graphics chip and an added Asus GeoForce Fx5200 graphics card.
I'm using whatI think is FC1 from the book, "Linux for Non-Geeks". When I try to install from a CD/DVD drive, I get the Welcome to Fedora" screen. The install runs to the point of:
runnng install
running /sbin/loading...
and then hangs whether I run in graphics or text mode.
I looked on linuxcompatibility.org and there was mention of two other Shuttle MBs, one of which had some problems with linux. Those threads also mentioned potential problems with SATA controller/drives. I found a thread here that lead to deploylinux.org, where it specifically said that ICH5Rchips should work with FC1. I've seen a few things about Nvidia chips and drivers, but I'm not sure what they really mean.
I'm tired of MS, and I was hoping that linux had gotten to the point where I didn't have to learn a a whole new set of geek tricks just to make it run. Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong, and what I should do to fix it?
Any advice greatfully accepted.
