My company is working with SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0. On one server I installed 7.0 and it works well independantly for a while. But then I discover that I can't connect to a 6.5 server using 7.0, and the only way out is to install the 6.5 on the same machine, and use 6.5 to connect to a remote 6.5 server. Please correct me if I'm wrong. This machine is running NT4 Server. Now when I'm installing 6.5 on it, the installation can't complete after copying all the files. I've already chosen the setup to copy the files to a different directory to the 7.0 directory. What can I do now? I can't even start my 7.0 service now. Please help. Thanks a lot! :>

What are the details when you say that you can't connect to the 6.5 machine? Are you trying to connect from a client via ODBC or using SQL Enterprise manager? Trusted or login connection?

Are these replication servers?

Well I mean in the 7.0 EM, I can't see my remote 6.5 server even I've registered it.

In fact the problem is solved now. Just want to share what I've done.

Since the 6.5 installation is not completed, I can use the 'remove 6.5' option in the 6.5 setup. Then I use the 'regrebld' command from command line and the registry was rebuilt. Then I can start the 7.0 server service at this moment and all the databases get back to normal. And I install the 6.5 again, but this time with the 'utility only' option, not a full 6.5 server install. Now when I'm using the 7.0 EM and expand my 6.5 server, the 6.5 EM will be brought up and I'm able to manage the 6.5 databases.

Hope it helps others facing the same problem. :>
