I have a user that has a problem typing in Word, and also in Outlook emails when Word is selected as the email editor. As soon as a letter is input, the line becomes all black (solid). I have tried renaming normal.dot, but it still happens. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Hi moram,

Firstly make sure that you have found the correct normal.dot - search for all normal.dot's on the drive.

Initially I suspected that possibly the normal style in normal.dot had been somehow modified. In a new document check Format Style and select "normal" and check all its properties. If you find an error then either you will have to open normal.dot (its location will be specified in Tools, Options, File Locations, User Templates and double click on this line if you can't see the full details), and modify the style there.

Or you could close Word and rename normal.dot and then restart Word and see if the new normal.dot is OK.

Sorry if this is a bit confused but I did not realise you had renamed until I had written most of the reply.

Good Luck
